How I can help
Working through trauma and PTSD
With Ali Anderson, BACP-accredited counsellor. In person in Skelmorlie or online across the UK and beyond.
Trauma doesn't stay in the past the way we'd like it to. It shows up as flashbacks or nightmares, as being permanently on edge, as feeling numb or cut off, or as reactions that seem out of proportion until you understand where they come from. Sometimes it goes back a very long way, to childhood, and has shaped things ever since.
One of the hardest parts is the sense that you should be over it by now. You don't have to have been through something dramatic for it to have left a mark, and you don't have to explain or justify it to me.
A lot of people worry that therapy means reliving everything in detail. With EMDR, that isn't how it works. It works with the brain's own natural healing rather than going over the trauma again and again, and many people find it takes fewer sessions than they expect. EMDR is recognised by the NHS as a go-to therapy for trauma, and it works well online too.
We'd go at your pace. Always.
